I am a multi-media artist and I love to combine watercolor paintings with ink. I began my art career in England at age thirteen when I won a scholarship to a high school that specialized in teaching art. During my last two years, I specialized in costume design and pattern making. At seventeen I left school to begin working in the professional theatre as an assistant to a costume designer. I spent several years working with different companies. The Royal Ballet Company; London's Festival Ballet Company and several others. I also designed and made costumes for small "Off-Broadway" theatre groups. Working with top designers was exciting and a very good training ground. I also traveled throughout Europe touring with the companies as an assistant or wardrobe mistress.
When I came to the USA I eventually bought a costume rental business and continued to design and make costumes for theatre and dance companies. Since retiring I have returned to painting. Here on my web page, you will find my latest works of art and I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoy painting them.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
My inspiration comes from many sources. Sometimes a dream, or paint flowing onto the paper. Sometimes an idea that comes while meditating at home or on retreat. I never know what to expect when a beautiful sheet of watercolor paper is in front of me or a script for a play, or watching a choreographer work so I can see the movements I need to make allowances for in my designs.
Watercolor is my favourite medium and I often add ink when the painting demands it. When designing costumes I start with a color pallet for the show and then for each individual character. I sketch the designs in pencil and ink then add my colors using fabric swatches.
The most rewardings times were when working together with well known designers and learning to make their designs become a reality on stage. This gave me the skills to eventually bring my own designs to life and see them moving across the stage worn by actors and dancers.
